The Door in the Hedge

sarahreesbrennan:

I have eternally been both amused and amazed by the Vampire Diaries ad campaign, which is basically ‘FILTH SHAMELESS FILTH ALL THE TIME’. I think it’s clever! I think it’s daring.

I mean, the time I saw the first promotional image, I was like ‘Whaaaaat? Oh man. I mean, I love LJ Smith, but wow. Is this… going to be porn? I mean, I’m in… but… is it, though?’

Is that a real promotional image? I wondered. Did fans make that? What’s going on? Who am I?

It made me scream ‘WHAAAAT?’ so loud one time my friend almost drove off a road.

Then there was the trailer. Tittered like schoolgirl. Check.

And now this.

Oh my gracious, the Vampire Diaries, you rascal, what will you do next?

Nothing like this ever happens on the show. (So far. Maybe in 1864. What happened in 1864 stays in 1864.)

And yet these ads are a nod and a wink. And I believe I have mentioned, I find them amazing and amusing.

They give me many thoughts on promotion. I’m not sure what those thoughts are. Except—that is good promotion! It catches attention, and that is the no. 1 THING you want to do. And, oh TVD.

The lovely Ms. Brennan. What can I say? She speaks the truth. #TVD
